Story:
John Auld left all of his land to his oldest son, James, who was mentioned in the will as being out of the province. The provision was stipulated that should he not return to claim his inheritance, his son, John Auld (the grandson of John Auld) was to receive the plantation. James Auld was actually in the province of North Carolina, having married a wealthy widow, Rosanna Piper Goldsborough, of Talbot county. She had married Howes Goldsborough who died shortly after their marriage. James and Rosanna lived in Dorchester county for a time, then sold all of their land in Talbot and Dorchester and moved to North Carolina. “Source: “Newport Glasgow” by Irma Harper in book from V.L. Auld From same book: “James Auld, born about 1723. Lawyer and commissary of Dorchester County, Maryland. Married Rosanna Piper, widow of Howes Goldsborough. Moved to Anson County, North Carolina, and started the AULD name on the trip across the South. Appointed First Major at the 2nd Continental Congress and served during the Revolutionary War. Died 8 May 1782 in Washington County, Maryland. His grave site has not been located.”
